Or maybe it’s a winter weekend with guests returning from a late afternoon hike. Faces are rosy, feet and hands are cold, and everyone has a taste for a soothing, warm bevvy. Grab a pot, make this MOCHA HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE and bask in the love you receive for it.

Before we share a few little tips on making this favourite treat, it’s important to acknowledge that we’re huge chocolate fans here at WATC. Here are a few tips on making this MOCHA HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE:

Ingredients needed to make Mocha Hot Chocolate.

INGREDIENTS

Everything needed to make this beautiful beverage is available at your local grocery store. Because this recipe is so popular and often requested, best to purchase extra cocoa powder. Always be prepared, right? When it comes to chocolate, you betcha!

Large liquic measures filled with homogenized milk and half-and-half cream.

MILK AND CREAM

Some of you may wonder why we combine whole milk and half-and-half cream. Well, that’s rich – literally. Although you can make homemade hot chocolate using only water, we found it lacking in texture. Testing this recipe using only milk was a great improvement. But when we added the 18% cream, the recipe went from simple to amazing. The milk-cream combo adds a real richness that’s so pleasing to the palette. Trust us on this.

A bowl of premium cocoa powder and a bowl of espresso powder.

COCOA AND MOCHA

Next is about the stellar combination of chocolate and coffee. In this recipe, we combine premium cocoa powder with instant espresso powder. It is said that mocha, a coffee bean grown in Yemen, tastes like chocolatey coffee. In this case, the espresso shot offers an almost bitter taste, while the chocolate combination creates a sweetness to create a velvety smooth, luxurious beverage.

Garnishes for hot chocolate include whipped cream, mini marshmallows and premium milk chocolate.

WHIPPED CREAM AND MARSHMALLOWS

Seriously, how could we not? In a perfect world, you’re going to have a small carton of 35% whipping cream at the ready. Pour a few cups into a bowl, whip it up and add a dollop or two into each mug. And then, because you really want to create something amazing, add a sprinkle of freshly grated milk chocolate. Dotting the drink with a few mini marshmallows is the final detail.
