18-20 Swiss cheese slices
For the sauce:

1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon granulated sugar
Takes ,
serves 12.
Instructions
Prepare the salsa: Into a medium-sized bowl, add mango, pineapple, red pepper, jalapeño, red onion and cilantro. Squeeze in the lime juice, then sprinkle with salt, sugar and black pepper. Toss together to combine. Reserve about 3/4 of a cup into a smaller bowl to be served as a garnish with the sliders. Cover both bowls and refrigerate until use.
Prepare the sauce: Place all of the ingredients for the sauce into a small saucepan. Warm on moderate heat to melt butter and dissolve honey. Stir to combine.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Assemble sliders: Cut slider buns in half horizontally, placing the bottom halves into a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish. Lay a crumpled slice of ham onto each slider bottom. Repeat with a second slice of ham crumpled over the first. Lay about 12 slices of cheese on top of the ham. Add the salsa, spreading it out evenly over the surface of the cheese. Add another layer of the crumpled ham in the same fashion, followed by a final layer of cheese. Place the tops on the slider rolls and brush with the sauce.
Cover casserole dish tightly with foil and transfer to the oven to bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and return to oven to bake for a final 10 minutes or until the tops are golden.
Cut sliders into individual sandwiches and serve with reserved salsa on the side.

Just the mention of a well-made sandwich gets me excited. Time for the details on these BAKED HAM AND CHEESE SLIDERS!
INGREDIENTS
Looking at the photo of the ingredients you’ll need is like, “That’s it?” Yup, it is, but there is a caveat; you need to make the salsa and the sauce. Don’t worry though, making them only involves a bit of chopping, a stir, and for the sauce, a brief heat on the stovetop. Easy!
HAM & CHEESE
This homemade sandwich recipe is yet another example of why the classic combination of ham and cheese always works. For best results, we suggest a premium smoked or cured ham available at most delis. Of course you can also use leftover GLAZED OVEN-BAKED HAM, just make sure you slice it as thin as possible. Same with the Swiss cheese – thin slices melt better.
BUN RUN
You can make this recipe using our POTATO DINNER ROLLS, but that will involve way more work. Instead, take a run to your favourite bakery or grocery store and pick up packages of small hamburger or slider buns. They’re easy to find and raise this recipe to a whole new level of easiness. One suggestion; don’t separate the buns apart before cutting them in half. Leaving the flat of buns whole makes working with them a breeze.
SUPER SALSA
Working on this recipe in the chill of early winter, I now know I had a moment. For a second my mind must have drifted to a warm tropical island. Next thing I knew, I was tripping on the concept of ham and cheese partnered with a zippy, fruity salsa. I’m glad I went there because this combination is awesome.
This PINEAPPLE-MANGO SALSA has just the right ratio of fruit to vegetables, and I love how the pineapple and mango play off the flavour of the red onion, cilantro, jalapeño and lime. We’ve also enjoyed this salsa without the pineapple as a condiment with our EASY GRILLED PORK CHOPS. I want to try this new and improved version with pork too. Don’t you just love options?
ASSEMBLY REQUIRED
Writing the instructions for this recipe was a bit challenging, asking for the ham slices to be crumpled onto the slider buns. The goal is to create little nooks and crannies for the cheese to melt down into. Still not sure what I mean?Watch this VIDEO as a guide.
GET SAUCY
Brushing the tops of the sliders with a HONEY-DIJON SAUCE is a complete game changer. It gives them so much flavour and the honey, mustard and garlic notes are extra-pleasing with the ham and cheese. Just so you know, this sandwich is a bit messy, so if you serve them as a grab-and-go offering at a party, place out extra napkins.
SERVE
Serving these sliders requires nothing more than a sharp knife and a lifter; the sammies easily come up and out of the dish. Serving the reserved salsa next to the dish is a nice touch and gives guests a chance to add a spoonful or two to their plates.
One thing for sure, these sandwiches are just the thing whenever you’re serving a crowd.
