I like bird feeders because they attract birds! Go figure!
In my mind, bird feeders are a great way of inviting your local, feathered friends over for a visit. In our neck of the woods, birds are plenty!
I usually head to our local feed store in a town nearby, to purchase BIRD FOOD. This mix includes: red Dari, millet, kibbled maize, linseed, canary seed, sunflower hearts, peanuts and black sunflower seeds and I think this varied mix of ingredients attract a wide range of local birds plus, the migratory ones just passing through.
I’ve learned to accept the fact that red squirrels also find my dispensary inviting. Well, so be it – in my mind, the more the merrier, especially when they’re this cute!!!
I suggest you hang your bird feeders off of a strong bough on a deciduous tree and remember to hang it low enough so that you’re able to add more seed with little effort. I also hang it so that it’s visible from a central, cozy spot within the cottage.
We really fell in love with various seed mixes – check out the Amazon links further down in this post. Little birds love to sit along the edge as if they’re having a chit-chat!!!
There’s nothing I love more than settling in to read a good book from a spot that gives me a clear view of a nearby bird feeder. It’s so often wonderful to do a little BIRDWATCHING as they enjoy the special meal you’ve presented solely for their enjoyment.
