Keep your eyes peeled for these VINTAGE WALL PLAQUES, they’re wonderful!
I first discovered these charming little gems at an out-of-the-way auction a few years back. While browsing through a series of upcoming lots, I noticed a group of boxes tucked under a display table. The boxes were filled with a number of vintage wall plaques. Thankfully, they sure seemed perfect for the cottage!

Here’s what piqued my interest:
1) They’re handmade and hand painted, thus each is one-of-a-kind. Although some of the colours are slightly faded, they still impart a handmade feel to each one.

2) The scenes depicted are unique and all boast an image of a cabin or chalet. I like the look of the little structure sitting in an amongst the trees.

3) The size is a bit unusual. Interestingly, the shape is an elongated octagon measuring a modest 6 x 8 inches.
Although research on the origins of these vintage wall plaques has yielded few clues, it seems they were produced as souvenirs or mementoes.

Flipping them over you can see heartfelt dedications to a now long-forgotten recipient. Some also detail the name of the artist, the subject and the year they were made.

They now hang in a tight grouping and look great together. If anyone else has come across these, or if you have them in a cottage decor collection, please send me some photos – I’d love to share with everyone!
