JULY 2019 NEWSLETTER!

Happy summer, everyone!

“Summer afternoon; to me, those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” Henry James, I couldn’t agree more!

With the season finally here, we are ready to enjoy our favourite pastime. The cottage is opened and organized, we scheduled our guest weekend visits, both at our cottage and away at friends’, and now… it’s time to enjoy!

Thank you for joining us on this journey!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Summer Grilling Contest

We want to extend big thanks to everyone who participated on our SUMMER GRILLING GIVEAWAY. Who knew so many of our food-loving friends were that passionate about grilling? Congratulations to NATALIE MALARCZUK from Ontario, who will be receiving her new PIT BOSS 820FB grill, compliments of our friends at Pit Boss Grills.

Head HERE to check out our GRILLING PLAYLIST on YouTube.

SO SWEET!

Anna Olson S'Mores

Last month we announced some exciting news – Weekend at the Cottage will be featuring recipes created by some very special guests. Well, we put the plan in motion and are already loving the results! FINA SCROPPO visited and made her delicious and healthy Berry Pecan Crumble Bars. Coming this month, the ever-amazing ANNA OLSON drops in for a visit, and talk about sweet – she creates a twist on the quintessential cottage dessert, with her scrumptious oven-baked s’mores. Wait until you try them!

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!

Grilled Ribs Tuscan Style

There was a particular joy brought about the in the past couple months as we started rolling out our stories for warm-weather entertaining. Two of our most popular posts were THE BEST BROCCOLI SALAD recipe and our HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKES – a salad and a dessert, that’s totally allowed. We also got our grill on with these extremely tasty balsamic glazed TUSCAN RIBS, and our much-watched GRILLED JUMBO SHRIMP recipe. Looking for a thirst-quenching bevvie? Try these SUMMER DRINK RECIPES.

Bon appétit and cheers!

COMING SOON!

Blueberry Pancakes

Where to begin? Safe to say we’ll have something for everyone in the next few months. As always, we’re trying to offer easy, straightforward recipes so we can spend less time in the kitchen and more time in the company of friends and family.

All the early birds out there will love Chris’ light and fluffy HOMEMADE BLUEBERRY PANCAKES. Need a great midday meal? We’ll float your boat with our takeaway LAKE LUNCH or our must make HOT DIGGITY DOGS.

Finally, back by popular demand, DINNER ON THE DOCK returns! This year will feature inspiration on setting a modern table, an award-worthy twist on FILET MIGNON WITH LOBSTER AND SAUCE BÉARNAISE, plus late night sweets for some memorable stargazing.

We’ve had a great response on our Complete Menu Ideas, which we started in February. If you haven’t seen them all and would like to, drop carol@weekendatthecottage.com a message and she’ll send you the months you’ve missed.

DON’T FENCE ME IN!

Iris by the fence

A few weeks back I was scrolling through our social media feeds and came upon a post from our friend, Adele. She shared how part of her fence came down in a storm, and the next day she was surprised to see neighbors’ kids traipsing through the gap to come play with her visiting grandkids. If that fence hadn’t come down, meeting her neighbors wouldn’t have happened!

This got me thinking: how about we make an effort this summer to meet a neighbor that you don’t already know. If a new family moves onto your street, head over and say hi. Got a new recipe? Make it and take it along when you go somewhere for a visit. If someone looks like they could use help with a project or summer chore, offer to be their right hand.

Taking down those fences and being nice to others always feels like a good idea.

I’ll end with best wishes to everyone enjoying these summer days in the northern climes, and to our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, sorry it’s winter down under. To our American cousins, happy 4th of July, and to my fellow Canadians, Happy Canada Day – true north, strong and free!

Have a safe and happy summer,

Nik
