July 2018 Newsletter

Greetings dear friends,

Finally, I get to write these joyous words: let’s hear it for summer!

I’ll begin by extending a huge welcome to all of our new subscribers, and this month there are many. We want to thank you for joining our community and promise to keep the delicious food and drinks, entertaining ideas and fun stuff coming. Never forget, you’re here amongst friends and we’re tickled pink to have you on board. Welcome!

We know everyone living in the Northern Hemisphere is keen to make the most of these warm-weather months, and for our fans south of the equator, snuggle up and stay warm – we feel for you! We certainly have been there, done that.

Without further adieu, on to this month’s updates and news.

We’ll be doing our next FACEBOOK LIVE on Tuesday, July 17 at 10 a.m., and this is one you won’t want to miss. With summer fruit coming into season, we’re thinking it’s the perfect time to make a homemade pie. To get you ready for this worthy endeavour, I’ll be doing a live tutorial on how to make an exceptional, flaky pie dough, from scratch. I’ll also share some tricks I’ve learned about making glorious, picture-perfect pies too, so pencil that date into your calendars!

We couldn’t be more proud of the response we received on our OLD-FASHIONED BUTTER TARTS post. Click HERE to view the recipe and click HERE to watch the video.

We thought we’d keep the fun going for the next little bit and include that much-loved recipe in this summer’s CONTEST GIVEAWAY, where one lucky winner will receive a BRAUN BREW SENSE THERMAL DRIP COFFEE MAKER! The contest runs from July 1 – August 15 and entering is easy – just make our OLD-FASHIONED BUTTER TARTS recipe and post a photo of the end result on INSTAGRAM using these two hashtags: #weekendatthecottage and #buttertarts.

Not only do you get to eat those delicious tarts, you could also win this fabulous coffee maker and brew a stellar cup of java to go with ‘em. Full contest rules are up on our website.

All you Weekend at the Cottage newbies may have missed some of our popular posts, so here’s a quick recap – click on each to see the recipe. People are still raving about our BUTTER CHICKEN CHILI recipe, our crowd-pleasing CONEY ISLAND HOT DOGS, and the one recipe that kids of all ages went ape for, FROZEN BANANA S’MORES. We know you’ll have great success with all of them.

Over the next few months, those of you entertaining a crowd of hungry people will want to make our SPICED PULLED BEEF SLIDERS – delicious! – while those looking to enjoy an easy-to-prepare meal that’s still light on the waistline can try our STUFFED SOLE WITH TOMATO-CAPER SAUCE. Both seasoned canners and those looking to venture into this rewarding pastime will appreciate our WILD BLUEBERRY JAM and the ultimate ANTIPASTO, perfect on crispy crackers. Finally, time to raise a glass to this glorious, sun-drenched season – who’s ready for GRILLED LEMONADE?

We’ve been asked by a number of you for suggestions on proper protocol when you’re invited up to someone’s cottage for the weekend, and we just so happen to have some experience and helpful suggestions on this important topic. We’ve crafted a handy, complimentary one-page list on HOW TO BE THE PERFECT COTTAGE GUEST – click HERE to access it. We produced it in a printable PDF format so both cottage guests and owners can reference it or post it for everyone to see. Here’s hoping our simple suggestions help everyone enjoy their next weekend at the cottage.

We have a special request: let us know what recipes you’d like to see this summer. Post a comment, email and look for us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Send us your questions, whether it’s a recipe, cocktail or anything cottage related, we wanna hear it!

From Carol, myself and the entire team at Weekend at the Cottage – best wishes for a safe and happy summer!
