I was just about ready to send off a year-end post to our amazing Editor Kerrin McNamara when I added, “Can you believe it’s already December?”

Seriously, I ask you the same thing; I’m actually feeling kind of shocked at just how quickly this year has flown by.

It seems like only yesterday Carol and I were sitting on the dock, excited for spring, planning the content calendar for 2018. Now, we’re up to our knees in snow wondering, what happened?!


This past year has been truly amazing and you’re a big part of that! We’re so proud, happy and honoured to share the Weekend at the Cottage experience with people from all over the world. So, in case we haven’t said it enough, THANK YOU! Thank you for giving our ideas a go. Thank you for trying our food and drink recipes! And thanks for keeping us in mind each time you gather with friends, family and loved ones. You’re the best!

Since this is the most wonderful time of the year, we want to make sure everyone enjoys this sweet season. In case you missed it, we’ve got holiday baking ideas sure to please your crowd. Try our retro STRAWBERRY COCONUT MACAROONS, our fantastic CHOCOLATE SALAMI and the rest of our HOLIDAY BAKING sensations. Sweet and festive, just like us – yay!

Something else that’s pretty sweet – WATC is returning to the food lovers dream, St. Lawrence Market, on Saturday, December 8. Drop by the Organic Farmer’s Tent, south of the main building, to say hi and try out some tasty treats too!


Weekend at the Cottage has evolved to become a great many things: a website, a video content platform, a social media portal (keep tagging your photos with #weekendatthecottage – LOVE IT!) and so much more. Thanks to your kind-hearted, fun and adventurous sense of engagement, Weekend at the Cottage has become a state of mind!


If you have time to binge watch some YouTube videos, make sure to visit our channel in the next few weeks, where we have three playlists created especially for this festive season. Check out: HOLIDAY BAKING, HOLIDAY COCKTAILS and HOLIDAY DINNER RECIPES.

As always, we have some great food and drink ideas coming up; stay tuned for our CHORIZO & SHEPHERD PEPPER SKILLET, OMA’S APPLE CAKE (a treasured family recipe) and something I’ve really been looking forward to sharing with you, a spectacular SEAFOOD CHOWDER. There’s other great stuff coming too so be thirsty and come hungry!


As the holiday season arrives and New Year’s fast approaches, we want to wish you and yours all the best and invite you to embrace the spirit of this most wonderful time of the year. Being present has the potential to be your greatest gift.

If you’re with family and friends – listen. Encourage them, support them, offer help if need be and remember to tell them how much you love them. Hugs are huge!

If you’re out and about and come upon someone less fortunate, someone who for whatever reason is struggling, please help them if you can. Offer to buy them a meal. Give them your warm gloves, hat, scarf or mittens. Dig extra deep and hand over ALL your change. Give from the heart!

And for yourself, let go of all the stuff that troubles you – especially any anger, resentment, fear or sadness. Try! Just let it go! Be bright, shining and centred… BE YOU!
