UPDATE! Nik is obsessed with COLLECTIBLES!

I’m pretty sure all of you have figured out that I’m crazy for collectibles. I’m especially interested in antiques, vintage items, linens, service wares, housewares and unique or unusual objects and tchotchkes.

It should be no surprise then that I’ve decided to dedicate an entire category to collectibles. I know you share in this with me. It’s fun! It’s exciting! It’s a great hobby for whenever we enjoy a Weekend at the Cottage. (Did I just type that? Is shopping a hobby? LOL!)

A little bit of research into the psychology of collecting reveals that this passion (in my case an obsession) fulfils a very basic need. It seems that those of us who amass collections do so, not for any monetary gain, but rather because of an emotional connection to the things we treasure. The experts tell us that people who collect often relive favourable moments from their childhood by connecting themselves to a period of history that they feel strongly about.

In my mind this makes perfect sense – the stuff that I yearn to possess always reminds me of my youth, a time of blissful happiness when everything was well within my world. In addition, I’ve come to realize that these things invariably remind me of the comforts I enjoyed most in my childhood home.

I promise to share tons of useful information about the collectibles that most piqued our interest – especially those that might enhance the “look” when displayed in a cottage or home setting.

Weekend at the Cottage… a collection of great collectibles!

Listen on MUSIC

Listening to great music is an essential part of every Weekend at the Cottage. For this post I thought I’d throw on one of my favourite collections, The Ultimate Collection (Remastered) – Sade. Head to iTunes to learn more about this incredibly talented woman to listen to her captivating voice. Sade, if you ever read this, know that you are loved!
