I hope you are all having a wonderful spring; it’s certainly a wet one here in southern Ontario, and with that comes a noticeable increase of black flies and mosquitoes. I guess these pesky varmints missed my declaration, “No bugs allowed!”
Before I get to the amazing content, recipes, tips and stories that Carol and I have planned for June, I’d like to welcome everyone who has joined us over the last month! And to everyone who liked our Facebook page and posts in May, the winner of the Arts at Work Canada 150 Gift Pack will be drawn this Friday. The name of the lucky winner will be posted on our Facebook page.
On to the updates and exciting news.
COMING UP IN JUNE
We’re super happy to be back up North shooting and creating content at the cottage. This month you can look forward to: a MIXED GRILL recipe just in time for Father’s Day, PERFECT POTATO SALAD, CHIMICHURRI, a VEGETABLE MEDLEY and much more! Don’t forget to shoot us an email if you have a story idea – we’d love to hear all about it.
Our Canada 150 celebration begins with recipes from two of Canada’s most beloved food experts. Wait until you taste Emily Richards’ ASPARAGUS AND SUNDRIED TOMATO FRITTATA and Julie Van Rosendaal’s STRAWBERRY-RHUBARB ICE CREAM. I’ve tried them both so I know you’ll agree – our talented friends are kicking off our celebration with some serious good taste!
We prefer to keep our topics light here at Weekend at the Cottage, but we recently had a seriously heated debate that we avoided posting to social media for fear of creating a firestorm. We’ve decided to ask you, our most dedicated followers, these burning questions: Are butter tarts made with or without raisins? And is the centre supposed to be drippy or firm? We will be shooting a video on making some crazy delicious butter tarts very soon, so send your answers right away to email@example.com, but remember, you might change the course of butter tart history forever.
CHCH MORNING LIVE!
Nik is returning to CHCH Morning Live on Monday, June 26 to share beverage ideas created especially for Canada Day. Tune in to watch me prepare a Canada-inspired cocktail, non-alcoholic punch and a cool summer smoothie for kids.
Let the countdown begin… twenty days ‘til summer!
