Here are a few things to keep in mind when you go to make this CHEESY BEEF TACO DIP:

All of the ingredients needed to make the beef taco dip.
Doesn’t take much to create this tasty party snack.

INGREDIENTS

Everything about this recipe is meant to be easy, and that includes the ingredients needed to make it. Pick up the ground beef and assorted vegetables at your favourite grocery store, purchasing organic veggies if possible as they always taste better. After that, grab your favourite cream cheese, some shredded cheese and a jar of salsa – regular or extra spicy, it’s up to you.

Taco seasoned sauteed beef, cream cheese and chopped veggies in a large bowl.
Make sure to strain the fat away from the cooked beef before you stir it together with the cream cheese and veggies.

BEEF SAUTÉ

This dip really does taste like a favourite beef taco, and that’s all thanks to the way we sauté the beef in a large skillet seasoned with our TEX-MEX SPICE MIX.

Weekend at the Cottage TEX-MEX SPICE MIX.

Feel free to use a favourite store-bought spice blend or you can also craft the one we used for our famous NACHO RECIPE. Although you can use ground turkey or chicken, we’re recommending beef; it gives this chili-cheese dip that real taco flavour we absolutely love.

The cream cheese, veggie and beef mixture spread out in a square casserole dish.
Smooth the beef mixture out in an even layer.

PRO TIP! Cook the meat on medium heat to render all the fat, then drain it away before mixing the beef with the vegetables and cream cheese. Seasoned beef stirred up with chopped onions, garlic, jalapeño and cream cheese is pretty tasty, and there are still more flavours to come!

The beef mixture topped with a jar of tomato salsa.
Use an oven-safe casserole or crock dish.

CASSEROLE DISH

Although we contemplated making this dip recipe in a crock pot or slow cooker, we finally settled on giving it the old-school oven-baked treatment. In the VIDEO attached to this recipe, we explain how you can bake this dip in a standard glass casserole, but we think an attractive oven-safe ceramic crock is more appealing. Once the beef filling is layered into the dish, just add that jar of salsa and bring on the cheesy topping. This snack idea is so easy to assemble.

The beef taco dip covered with grated cheese, ready for the oven.
Ideally, pick a cheese that will melt and get gooey in the oven. Make sure it’s flavourful too!

CHEESE TOPPING

This recipe welcomes experimentation, especially when it comes to the type of cheese you decide to grate up and sprinkle onto the layers of seasoned beef and salsa. Although we used aged cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack for this story, we’ve had great success with mozzarella, Colby, Cotija, Manchego and Havarti. Make this recipe to your taste by using your favourites.

Garnishes for the dip include; avocado, green onions, cilantro and tomatoes served with crispy corn tortilla chips.
Feel free to also add green chillies, black beans, sour cream and olives garnishes as well.

GARNISHES

Trust us, we know; when pressed for time, skip the garnish. Let’s make a pact that we’ll never do that with this cheesy beef dip recipe. The garnish is too important to the final flavour profile of this dish. The tomato and avocado give it a cooling bite of fresh vegetables, while the green onions and cilantro add that authentic taco profile. By all means, if you enjoy green chillies, black beans, black olives and sour cream, you can add them to your garnish mix as well. One suggestion for the tortilla chips is to make sure they’re sturdy; people tend to go for big, robust scoops when they enjoy this dip.

The cheese on this dip recipe is extra gooey and super cheesy. Woot!

SERVE

This simple snack recipe loves company. If you’re serving it on its own, pair it with a favourite chilled cocktail like our FLOR DE SEVILLA SPRITZ or a bottle of cerveza (beer!). If you’re serving the dip as part of a bigger party plan, present it along with our FLAKY CHEESE PUFFS and our CHEESE AND CHARCUTERIE BOARD. Add our MARGARITA FIZZ PUNCH and everyone is sure to have a fabulous time!
